Distribution Beta Kootenay Mountain Culture Magazine (KMC) employs a unique circulation strategy formulated to ensure the magazine achieves both a geographically widespread and highly targeted readership. Our reader is fascinated by mountains and has some sort of relationship with southern British Columbia. Our goal is to make it very easy for that person to come across our magazine and take it home with them. The magazine is free, has a print run of 15,000 per issue (two issues per year) and is circulated through key points in the Pacific Northwest. Outdoor retail shops, resorts, and backcountry operators throughout southern BC see the bulk of our distribution. Because the publication is free, has high production values and is one of the only magazines with regional content, KMC is often showcased in stands on the front retail desk and displayed in storefront windows. Many shops from Whistler through to Calgary claim readers actually enter the store to pick up a copy. In all respects, it's a coveted piece. We are not distributed in WalMart, nor do we compete for the reader’s attention on newsstands. At backcountry operations like Canadian Mountain Holidays (who distribute nearly 1,000 issues per season), Selkirk Wilderness Cat Skiing and Baldface Lodge, owners often give a copy of the magazine to clients as gifts. Over 4,000 magazines per issue are distributed in this manner. Because many of these clients travel from abroad to recreate in BC, KMC accesses readers from all over the world. For those who wish to ensure their copy of KMC (at certain stores, like Nelson’s Valhalla Pure Outfitters, whole boxes of magazines can sometimes be devoured in a single day) we sell subscriptions. As a result of our unique distribution strategy, we have developed a robust international subscription base. We currently have subscribers from all over Canada, in 22 different states, and in countries like Australia, Switzerland, Germany, UK, New Zealand, Japan…even Iran.
