Nelson-based photographer Kari Medig recently won the Kootenay Coldsmoke Powder Festival’s Coldshot Photo Competition held this past weekend at Whitewater Winter Resort. One of the premiere events, hosted by Kootenay Mountain Culture Magazine and Arc’teryx, the Coldshot Photo Competition gives 5 photographers 4 days to tell their best winter story without leaving the confines of the Kootenays. Last year Kari finished second, this year he won with a wonderfully creative, completely unexpected slideshow called “Pillow Line.” Congratulations Kari. Stay tuned for shows from other competitors, all of which were stunning representations of winter life in the Kootenays.

“…It was inspired by an amazing stop motion concept and technique used by Tel Aviv based photographer Eyal Landesman. I took it a step in a different direction that gave me a chance to show the world of skiing in a different way…”
